Getting Outside The Box With Cheeky Days

How much technology do your kids watch?

This is such a struggle in my household right now. Having preschoolers who only attend part-time school, means that they are home for three days of the week. During those three days, I still have “mommy chores” that need to get done. I am struggling to get those chores done without allowing them iPad time. I’m not proud of this but it’s my reality.

I believe that iPad time should be a give and take kind of thing. If I let them watch the iPad for one hour, then I owe them two plus hours of active outside time. Does this work for us? Yes, but I’m still not proud of it. Especially when I occasionally catch the boys watching things that we don’t necessarily believe in.

Getting Outside The Box

I was very excited when I discovered Outside The Box by Cheeky Days. I knew this is what my boys needed to snap us out of our iPad funk.

“Because we believe life isn’t about the stuff, it’s about what we do and how we do it.”

Outside The Box is a monthly box that you can order for your little ones. If you like a few extra dollars in your wallet you can do a three or six-month subscription, which cuts down on the cost of the individual boxes. All the boxes are filled with amazing goodies valued up to $70+ from small shops. One of my favorite things about Outside The Box, is that all the boxes have a sibling addition option that will give you enough goodies for all your kids, so no worries about ordering two boxes.

Currently they have eighteen boxes to offer so there is something for every child’s individual personality. Some of my favorite boxes are: Room For Wild, Be Super, and Art With Heart. These aren’t just a craft box or a book box, they are much more. Each box is thoughtfully put together, and coordinates with the theme chosen perfectly.

These boxes create convenient hands on parenting. It perfectly lays out proactive conversations and a creative activity. Outside The Box orchestrates the one on one time that we all need to be having with our kids. The box will even get you outside of your comfort zone. Outside The Box gives your children the opportunity to give back to their community and to make a difference, which will take a little parental assistance.

What’s In My Box

Now, I should probably tell you about our box. We received the Houston Strong Box! I was SUPER excited to get this box. The entire theme of the box revolves around giving back to those who were/are effected by Hurricane Harvey. Texas has a very special place in my heart, my family is from west Texas and my best friend lives in Houston. This box was a perfect opportunity to show my kids that they can help put a smile on those faces that are close to our hearts.

Our Hurricane Harvey box included undies and books, it also had a bookmark for the boys to decorate along with a pillow case to decorate, we will send them all back to cheer someone up who could use a little pick me up.

My little guys received a book, along with a bee craft and work sheet to go with the book for themselves. We also, got the most adorable tee shirt for the boys and momma got an awesome journal!

My kids are on their ipads or phones too much but it is the world they have been brought up in. It is nice to give to the Texans who have had a tough time.

That’s a cool box. I am a huge fan of screen time though. I think there are so many educational shows and resources available. We aren’t home a lot though, so that’s probably why I don’t stress over it.

Such a fun idea. It’s easy to just hand over the tech, and for good reason, there are a lot of great educational and entertaining apps and programs to watch. However, you also want your kids to use their imagination and interact with the tactile world so this box really can help them do so.
